road trip to Chamonix

So here we are in Chamonix… capital of the Alps. It was already dark when we arrived in town, which Bill reminded me the entire last part of the drive that was in the rain on a winding road . As for Chamonix, what little we could see looked perfectly quaint.

We checked into our 98 Euro a night hotel (that’s for a triple room and three breakfasts)… my effort at proving that I am capable of finding a reasonably priced place to stay. Besides, if I don’t, we’ll go broke just on weekend trips.

The room is really pretty big. Kaitlyn has her own bed. Remember, that was her first question when we walked into our room in Paris: “where’s my bed?” Maybe it was because she didn’t have her own bed then that she insisted on bringing her Dora sleeping bag/air mattress with us. But that doesn’t explain why she is insisting on sleeping in it. On top of her bed. And it is really very noisy when she moves around, and she does flop around a lot.

The room also has a balcony and a view of the river. It’s really rushing. It would be soothing to lie in bed and listen to it, but 7 degrees Celsius is too cold to sleep with the door open. What we cannot see in the dark and clouds: Mont Blanc. It’s got to be here somewhere.
