(is that a verb?)<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Today we had our cultural training.  It was long, but interesting.  I think it will pay off in the short and long run.  <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Here are the things I want to really be sure to remember:<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">lower \tmy expectations of myself.  It&#8217;s ok if in one day all I get done is \tone errand.  It will get better&#8230; slowly<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Keep \tmy ability to laugh. <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Learn \tthe ability to say no.  People will want to show up on our doorstep \twith their bags, but not always when we want to have guests.  It&#8217;s \tok to say no. Not that week. (or day or month!)<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Make \ta list of the things and places we want to do and see.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Keep \ta calendar.  Every six months, plan a big thing.  (plan means really \tplan. Make reservations! )  Every quarter, plan a smaller thing.  \tKeep track of holidays, Bill&#8217;s work travel, home leave.  Guests come \tlast on the totem pole.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">It&#8217;s \tup to us to make the first move to meet people and make friends.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Be \tMarcia Brady.  Join as many groups as you can find that cater to any \tof your interests.  You don&#8217;t have to STAY a member of all (or any) \tof them.  But it&#8217;s a good way to get out and meet people and expand \tyour world.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">There \tis a natural curve of adjustment that includes a slide down into \tquestioning and sadness and anger and frustration.  But it goes back \tup.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Take \tadvantage of the counselor provided by the company.  She is a great \tresource.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Ask \tfor help.  Ask a French woman to go to the grocery store the first \ttime.  <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">The \tmove is stressful for Kaitlyn, too.  She will respond the way she \tsees us respond. And she could experience some setbacks in things \tlike potty training (doh!)<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">If \tinvited somewhere, don&#8217;t show up on time.  Don&#8217;t expect to leave \tearly.  Or at least, don&#8217;t expect French guests at your house to \tleave early.  An 8pm dinner will finish around 1am.  (no weeknight \tdinners for us!)<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Tekton Pro, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">I&#8217;m sure there is more.
