{"id":155,"date":"2007-03-13T14:42:39","date_gmt":"2007-03-13T19:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/?p=155"},"modified":"2007-03-14T14:50:03","modified_gmt":"2007-03-14T19:50:03","slug":"an-autre-grenoble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/?p=155","title":{"rendered":"an autre Grenoble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">Too late for my first house guests, I went on a tour of \u0093another Grenoble\u0094 today and learned a lot about our adopted, temporary home.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"tour-group.jpg\" id=\"image162\" src=\"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/tour-group.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">            I saw where the rampart built around the original city by the Romans is still marked on the ground.  And heard where to go if I want to actually see part of the wall.  Grenoble was apparently very important to the Roman Empire, because it was the gateway from the south of France to Italy.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">            I saw the first street built outside the wall.  I saw the oldest house in Grenoble.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"oldest-house.jpg\" id=\"image160\" src=\"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/oldest-house.jpg\" \/>  <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">I saw other old houses&#8230; many I&#8217;d walked past or even shopped in the stores on the ground floor without paying any attention to the amazing detail.  <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"old-house.jpg\" id=\"image159\" src=\"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/old-house.jpg\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"inside-house.jpg\" id=\"image158\" src=\"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/inside-house.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">One has giant wooden doors with carvings around the door knockers that look like a cross between a man and a lion.  And the door knockers are very high off the ground&#8230; so you can knock on the door without getting off your horse.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"door-knockers.jpg\" id=\"image157\" src=\"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/door-knockers.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">            I also learned about the cathedral&#8230; and the battle between the bishop and the dauphin over who had the tallest cathedral.  <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">            I stood on a suspension bridge over the Isere river;  that I didn&#8217;t like because you could feel it moving.  The guide also told us about how dangerous the Isere is&#8230; how it&#8217;s named after a word for snake&#8230; and how important it was for Grenoble to finally feel like it had \u0093tamed\u0094 the waters.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"on-bridge.jpg\" id=\"image161\" src=\"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/on-bridge.jpg\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"crossing-bridge.jpg\" id=\"image156\" src=\"http:\/\/kaitlyn-marsue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/crossing-bridge.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font face=\"Myriad Condensed Web, sans-serif\"><font size=\"4\">            Now I have just enough knowledge to really drive my next house guests crazy!  <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Too late for my first house guests, I went on a tour of \u0093another Grenoble\u0094 today and learned a lot about our adopted, temporary home.
